Each month reveals a different corner of the cosmos, from glowing nebulae and distant galaxies to star trails over a Winters oak. Created in partnership with the Rotary Club of Winters, this calendar blends art, science, and community spirit.
All images were captured by local astrophotographer Bob Schultz in his local observatory. His work showcases the beauty of our own night sky. Each page includes distances, constellations, and short astronomy notes to inspire curiosity all year long.
All proceeds support the Winters Rotary Foundation's STEM Scholarship for a Winters High School senior - supporting students pursuing science, technology, engineering, and math. By hanging the 2027 Yolo Sky Calendar in your home or giving it as a gift, you help spark curiosity, encourage learning, and strengthen our community’s connection to the universe above.
About the Photographer
Bob Schultz has been fascinated by astronomy for as long as he can remember, but never had the time or energy for it while he was working. That changed in 2011, when the Permanente Medical Group gave him a telescope as a retirement gift and a new avocation began.
"I'm drawn to the awe-inspiring sights that modern astronomy equipment can provide," Bob says. "The magnitude of what we see every night helps keep everything in perspective. I once saw a cartoon that said, 'Astronomy may be hazardous to your sense of self importance.'"
Every photo in this calendar was taken from Bob's Winters Sky Observatory, including the partial eclipsed moon on the cover, and the star-trail image of a tree about 100 feet from the observatory. The deep-sky images are built up from hours of exposures. This is the second Yolo Sky Calendar, a Rotary project to share the beauty of the night sky and to help a local student on the path to a career in science, technology, engineering, or math.
